Sandile’s Rest, is situated 22 km outside Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape, and lies at the foot of the Amatola mountains. A short one hour drive will take you to East London or the Wild Coast, where you will find stunning beaches and excellent fishing spots.
Sandile’s Rest, with its pristine mountain river and stream, is both a private game and a forest reserve consisting of wild life, a forest plantation, 40 hectares of indigenous yellowwood forest and wetlands. Once in, you will feel as if you are in Knysna forests, but with Sandile’s own wild life! And don’t forget to show your respects to “OLD YELLOW” our prized 450 year old Outeniqua yellowwood tree!
In summer you can fish for bass or enjoy a lazy quiet warm day in an original Canadian log cabin. Winter is the time for trout fishing and cuddling up in front of a log fire in your warm cozy log cabin, sipping sherry and watching the mist roll in.
A good idea would be to take a quiet lazy scenic walk in the forest plantation or in the indigenous yellowwood forest, which has indigenous forest animals and over 80 different tree species. It boasts rare and endangered species like yellowwoods, stinkwoods and ironwoods, and many of the trees are labelled for your convenience.
Should you want something less stressful, how about sitting at the wetlands to do some game viewing and bird watching? We have more than 100 species of birds, including the endangered Cape parrot. Or have a picnic by the side of a babbling pristine stream, and enjoy the exotic plants growing on the untouched rock face.
For the more adventurous we have horses and mountain bikes, and for the fisherman there are two dams, one with large mouth bass and the other with rainbow trout - you decide! If the kids get too noisy, pack them up and take them to the beach or the movies, only an hour’s drive away.
